Program Eligibility

South Louisiana AHEC Scholars are selected from diverse backgrounds, institutions, and a variety of health care professions. Applicants must be enrolled in a 2+ year university or community college health professions program to apply. Applications from students with other curriculum timelines are subject to additional review for feasibility. All are encouraged to apply.

Preference is given to individuals who are:

• Louisiana residents

• Have a demonstrated interest in community health

• Part of a population underrepresented in the healthcare field

• From a rural or underserved area

• First generation college students

South Louisiana AHECs will select a group of scholars that represent diverse backgrounds and institutions and a variety of health care professions, including dentistry, public health, medicine, nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy, psychology, social work, speech therapy, and many others.
